Player feedback from January 2021
Here we are. Let’s take a run at 40 Dragons and a shot at the Tournament! Even 30+ down may give me a chance of Victory…
Well 34 Dragons down with 1 health and almost zero resources remaining. Don’t think I will get to 40, but even 35 down should give me a puncher’s chance at the title this week…
Hey thanks. You’ve ruined a good game and squandered away a great shot at the 50 Blacks, on account of ridiculous Lair rolls. Happy 2021 baby!
Well there it is. 44 Dragons down. Would have been 50 with average rolls.
OMG! Three cavern crawlers all in the same room. Lucky I’m not near the door!
Too many dragons, too little health. Being targeted in the first room (7 straight shots against hit) didn’t help.
So I lost 7 health in one room. On top of the sub-par weapons (again, sigh) and the ZERO flame, I think I get the message! Don’t know why I am bothering to play this out on the Whites, but I will slug it out to the inevitable and rapidly approaching end…
40 Dragons remaining and the path to Victory already gone. Less than 0.001% I would assess. The last 10 - 12 games in a row have been bad , very bad. Please re-set to normal probabilities.
Yet another game stillborn. Nothing at all here. Flailing around with +1 weapons in a no=hope -room.
This is just making me sick. 9 health lost and still 34 Dragons remaining. Rolls and layouts are garbage. 13th straight game (?). You are giving me nothing this weekend. Resign. Again. Sigh.
so any feedback Harvester gives automatically makes it into the feedback thread?
Best game in the last 2 days: 11 Dragons left. Hahahahahahhaha!#%$&(^)*(_(&&%$%&!!! I am losing my mind here. Stop these garbage games!
Wait. White Dragons. About to go into the Lair with: Subpar weapons. 10 leap. 12 Flame. 8 health. Weak. Why am I doing this? On the White Dragons? Resign. Hopefully, after 14 straight games of handicapping me, tomorrow will bring back normal resource levels.
idunnolol - Yes. If you type into the feedback box and leave “Share this in the public forum” ticked, this is where it appears.
plz add more maps!
When the huntress is revised please allow us to surprise leap attack. I think it could be implemented with a simple button like the dwarf is able to choose bow attack vs charge.
Good luck for the first 2021 tournament Harvester! (or the last 2020 one, depending on when you count from) Not long to wait now. My dwarf was just two dragons short of taking your top spot.
Wow, close finish on the tourney! Harvester’s 35/40 with his elf hangs on against raand’s 34/40 with his dwarf.
One Blue Dragon left with one health point. Arrgh. Closest thing to Victory without winning. Oh well. Kicked back down into the mud once again.
I agree with eddiert. This is missing as well as the other way round: Sometimes (very rare) in a feat it is better to leap over a dragon and leap attack AFTER that. That is not possible. At least write in the documentation, that a feat does not give a leap+”leap attack” but just one step move+”leap attack” to be consistent.
I think girded loins could hold/last until the next attack or counterattack. Another “eventless” round with just a walking step feels like a waste.
Low resources, low health, +7 bow. This is not a 50 Dragon potential game. Save time. Resign.
Thank you for successfully ending the Tournament run with a ZERO flame game. Great stuff.
15 health and average resources / weapons, and you did that to me??? Gave me a death sentence. Tonight’s games were abysmal. Thoroughly enraged by that garbage. Might as well notify me the game is down as give me 1 in 1000 bad luck games like those.
I want to raise the question where you want to go with dungeoneers this year. It is a great game so far and is constantly developed further. However 101 dragons will somewhen be a “dead end”. Even if we could progress further, do we want that? The success chance will drop at the end slowly to zero and that feels bad . Is that a problem? Other games have endings, too.
What do the other players think? My optinion is that it gets too much weight on the lair in the end. It should not be a gamble for a “9,9,9 dragon hunt” (although that could be an own game mode). I read about ideas to let the dragons walk in the dungeon.
For the start I would be happy with a minor death change: If one character dies, the others still can go from the start, pick up the weapons and finish the fight. Maybe just in one of the modes?
Does the dungeon need to grow? E.g. with new areas that are time consuming, but allow go get more potions? Kind of “rescue-the-princess-potion-award” side quests? What do you think? What ideas are around here?
Some of the ideas that have been floated in the last few months seem appealing, as a direction that the game programming could go in.
First, mithril-like bonus items could be developed, and located in deep branches of the lair.
Second, there was the idea of having multiple altars show up inside the Lair in random (but deeply buried) branches. This would make the creation of a 9,9,9 weapon set seem like a possibility in every game (even though it might not turn out to be an actual possibility in any given game). Quitting early because of bad weapons and scrolls would become a less attractive strategy. Ideally, a player should not be able to tell how well the game is going, just based on the early events.
Third, as things stand now, almost all of the creatures encountered in the game are unfriendly. Clearly, however, the programming accommodates monsters that are deliberately helpful (e.g., Worms helping Dwarves) or inadvertently helpful (e.g., Reapers attacking monsters in their way, or Crawlers or Worms attacking monsters that are adjacent).
One possible way to make the game more complex would be to make certain specific monsters (or monster types) either initially helpful (unless you attack them) or recruitable (possibly by possessing a magic mithril-like object). More challenging is when the behavior would not be predictable simply by knowing the monster type.
I can envision a game in which success against a large number of dragons (and/or other very large monsters in the Lair area) would be unlikely without making use of the potential allies.
Weapons are clearly too weak against now 2-hit-points cave trolls in hunt
I just want to congratulate for the 1000th advanced dungeoneer. If I interpret the campaign standings correctly, you could have that now. We all hope the player number keeps growing to allow you further development. Nice job!
Just lost 6 health in one room. Unbelievable. Curse of the 35 Blue Dragons once again…
Just slaughtered in that Lair.
I have a Suggestion in regards to the New Elf Huntress.
Specifically in regards to her Bow Range. It make sense that if she can now advance to 24th level like the Dwarf and the Human;
Then Her Bow Range SHOULD also increase from 3 Hexes to 4 Hexes.
Especially because some monsters, Like the Roper for Example, currently has a range of 4 Hexes, which is greater that The Elf Huntress.
Hey you Jack assess Explain this to me?
Why is it that you ALWAYS Miss ALL of the Time even when you have +9 Sword, Bow , and Shield, WHEN you are playing in Campaign Mode!!?????
Yet this DOES NOT happen when playing in Career Mode!
Explain THAT ONE to US!!!
Dread Stalker I cannot confirm that. But I suggest (what was already proposed somewhen) to provide that ingame statistic in the user profile:
Average chance to hit, number of attacks, number of hits
Average chance to get hit, number of monser attacks, number of hits taken
This would end discussion about unfair dices. Probably per “game mode” would be interesting. Indeed I play different “careful” in normal game, campaign and tournament…
Add more magic, maybe a fireball or nova ring scrolls? Add more maps Wondering if we could have something collaborative play?
Collaborative play does sound fun, but it’d probably be hard to implement and/or follow-through with. I mean, you’d have to balance the monsters for multiple players, and make up a new mode, probably. Anyway, they’re focusing on the huntress, right now.
Absolute BS. 17 health. 17. And you smoke me out in the Lair. Brutal. Litany of recent failutre continues. I am getting close to done with teh game. Haven’t had meaningful success in over a week.
Subpar weapons no resources or health = no 50 Dragon game. Resign.
Dear Gods. This is the n-th game in a row with terrible luck and layouts, +7 shield, random hits by Purple Worms. I can’t take it. The last 7 days have been cursed! Resign (4th in a row today)…
I am now switching to use the Human to build up his XP. Didn’t want to go down this road but it seems now that there’s no real way to get to the top without it. Human and Dwarf have been beefed up at the comparative expense of the Elf. Elf is capped out - 60,000,000 xp has earned me nothing, and I have little faith in the Elf revision. So, holding my nose, here we go with the Human for a while (note: I will of course continue with the Elf in the weekly Tournament where it counts!).
Anyone else who has the feeling, that the server is slow today? It is much worse on firefox than chrome, so I am not sure if it is me or the server.
Today’s daily hunt sucks. +4 equipment against ~50% 2HD monsters, including ogres, plus those invisible ghosts. Successful hunt rate is going to be low today.
This time I don’t agree idunnolol. I got 97 (thought about taking my last haste, didn’t do it and died… AAAHW). You have to DEFEND against bugs, then it is fine. Avoid ogres and such. I very much liked the introduction to the hunt!
OK, it was a software issue on my side (probably so strong in dungeoneers, because of the xbox game bar that is running in backround for dungeoneers)!
OK this is probably the worst game in the last 100 in terms of rolls, resources, and random bad hits. And I’m not even IN the Lair yet! LOL. Basically telling me the Tournament is over. Probably no point in embarrassing myself in the Lair and having the leaderboard show that I only took down 2 Dragons or whatever.
And now, the +7 bow… By All The Gods man, are you trying to just ruin me this week in the Tournament?
And now a +7 Sword. I can’t take it. Hahahahahahahah!!!!!
OK seriously. This must be spoken: I have 8 health, subpar weapons, and the lowest number of scrolls ever - 5 leap and 7 flame. You have now tied one arm behind my back and shackled my legs together. I will try my best! Hahahahaha!!! lol
If anything the Lair Battle was even worse than I had expected (and that was bad enough). Absolute BS. I have one health point remaining having only taken out 13 Dragons! If this stat is posted on the Leaderboard people wil wonder if this is some kind of Flowers For Algernon scenario whereby one of the greatest tactical minds in Dungeoneers history has been somehow reduced to a state of mental retardation. Time to Quit now.
For f### sakes man! Now you gave me a game where I couldn’t hit anything, dropped me out of the Campaign as welll tonight. Brutal night. Why am I getting consecutive brutal games thsi week. Absolute grabage. If you want me gone just say so. Seems I can’t win anymore.
16 Dragons remaining. Actually would have been a winnable game with even 12+ Flame going in. Oh well…
Spit in my face once again. 2 haste?!! These last 10+ games are a violation. How can I not beat more than about 35 Dragons anymore. How can I have payed the 25 Dragon Campaign for months without progress. How have other players suddenly leaped over me and now able to slay 60+ Dragons with ease. If the new Elf is not significantly better I will leave Dungeoneers once and for all.
Just pathetic. Smacked around like a red-headed step-child, to quote HST. Can’t beat the Dragons anymore.
OK you have finally taken it to an extreme: no flame. First two levels cleared out and sitting on: no flame. Zero.
I think I have actually hi rock bottom. Going into the Lair with 0 flame, 11 haste, 15 leap. Vs 50 Dragons. Hahahahahhah!!!!! You got me good!
This world of s*** never ends. Thought I had a winning game but 4 dragons left. Bad bad rolls in last 5 rooms. Back down to the Whites. HOW LONG WILL I BE STUCK ON 35 DRAGONS??? I will play 3 more times in Campaign. If no success then that’s it, will delet my Dungeoneers account. Close to done with this game. Here goes the 1st of 3 tries…
That was final attempt 1 of 3 on the 35 Dragon Campaign. Flamed out on the Whites. 2 more attempts left in my Dungeoneering career before permanent retirement.
The sad feeling I experience when I get a +7 item in the boss rooms is more intense than the happy feeling I experience when I get a +9 item in the boss room.
I agree. Especially when all other drops are like 7: In a last superhuman effort the hero travels deep into the dragon lair. He finds a “golden dragon chest” and inside is something… less than a T-shirt…
I suggest quarter levels in between: If one is already on 7 and gets another 7, it increases to 7.25. The 0.25 can be implemented as an extra ability on the weapon that e.g. triggers when dices are equal. Currently the attacker hits in this case. With a 7.25 shield one might get 1/4 chance to defend. This could be labeled like “shield experience” (you see the hit, but the effect neglects the damage). The other way round for a hit could be implemented similarly.
OK. In one room you absolutely screwed me here. ON the 35 Blue Dragons. Pointless to go on. RESIGN. As mentioned I am trying the 35 Dragon Campaign 3 final times. That was my second attempt. Fail again and that is it for real. I will delete my account.
Harvester, no! Stay determined! Please take a break rather than quitting. I’ll certainly miss your comments if you go.
What do you think of saying that the ruins boss weapons are never the same bonus? So if you get all three, you’d always get a +7, +8, and +9.
Or … all ruins boss weapons are +8. To get a +9, you’d need to be lucky with a golden chest, really lucky with a stone chest, or use the altar.
Or maybe just reduce the chance of +7 on an exceptional level 3 spin to 1/10.
Having played Basic Dungeoneers for a long time, and because I have a relatively low fame level, I have less of that sad feeling with +7 because my guideline for fighting dragons is still +6 weapons.
But I know that’s not good enough to defeat larger numbers of dragons in the lair.
A +6 sword and shield won’t do the job against 35 dragons.
Personally I’m OK with the boss weapons being random but it does mean you can have “bad” 7,7,7 games and “good” 9,9,9 games. Perhaps you could reduce the chance of +7 and/or increase the chance of +9 if the golden chest is more rooms away from the lair entrance. So if the chest is easy to get to, it’s more likely to be a +7 and if you took more of a risk sneaking or fighting past dragons to find it, it’s more likely to be +9. You could increase one number by one on the spinner for each room away from the entrance or something. As the lair increases in size, the chance of a +9 weapon is increased, but you also have more challenge to get it.
(I’m certain if you choose the 7,8,9 solution you’ll still get people complaining they have a “bad” game because they got the wrong 7, 8 and 9. With 8,8,8 it’ll be how many potions were in the tunnels. Luck (or not) with the rng is part of the game one way or another.)
So, the way that the game is currently structured, in Career and Campaign modes, winning requires killing a number of dragons that keeps increasing. Eventually, the targeted number of kills is going to get so large that failure (either one-in-a-row or five-in-a-row) happens most of the time. A little while later, when the target rises further, failure happens almost every single time, barring extraordinary good luck (weapons and dice rolls). And some players will get very frustrated when that happens.
So, should the game be changed so that some minimal level of weaponry is guaranteed (+7 +8 +9 or +8 +8 +8)? My main point here is that it makes ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE what the game guarantees (the current guarantee is +7 +7 +7). Eventually, the target level of nearly assured failure will be reached.
(Ranking characters up is a partial solution, but I notice that I am now going to have to more than double my lifetime point totals in order to get my Elf one more skill, and that could take a while.)
Nevertheless, it would help a lot, psychologically, if the awarding of +7 weapons in the Ruins did not feel like a death sentence–in particular, getting a +7 bow, as an Elf, or a +7 shield, as a dwarf.)
In the future, random extra Altars deep in the lair (or mithril-like objects) could make almost any game potentially winnable. But that could require more programming and experiments.
Shorter-term the easier fix might be to guarantee that every game had at least a +7 +8 +8 (in some order) SOMEWHERE in the game (commonly including deep in the Lair). That way, given that an Altar was available to the player, the player could CHOOSE to make sure that at least +8 +8 +8 happened, or that +7 +8 +9 happened (if the player considered that having +9 in one slot was valuable enough to risk having +7 in a different slot).
At least, such a +7 +8 +8 minimum guarantee would leave it up to the player to make the strategic decision (taking into account the fact that the player could not tell in advance HOW SOON any good weapons in the Lair would be encountered).
As a side benefit of having such a guarantee, there are currently rooms (outside the Lair) that have +10 and +11 monsters with 3HP. Currently, those rooms are usually best avoided. However, the calculation could change if (a significant proportion of the time) the only +8 or +9 copy of a particular weapon in the game turned out to be hidden in one of those rooms–and the player might have to visit most of the Lair rooms to figure out that that was the case.
–Just a thought
Optimism could be based on knowing that every game had at least two different +8 weapons somewhere in the game (i.e., +7 +8 +8) SOMEWHERE deep in the Lair, there would always
I like ALL ideas very much: The “rising dragon treasure” as well as 7,8,8 (not 8,8,8) somewhere in the game and making sure that the “remaining” seven is not the most important weapon of the starting character.
On the programming side, and for less “randomness destroying” It might be good to just reroll the start character fitting (elf=bow…) ruin weapon as long as there is no 8 for this in the game. This means the only chance to roll a 7,7,8 is a 7,7,7 or 7,7,8 game with the 8 on the particular main weapon. This is less likely enough and still not a terrible game. If you want to “increase the localization spread” and number of 8s you could put one 8 on the first side of the ruin and lair chests wheel. This would make the chests in the lair twice as interesting.
Game Mode Limit:
We all see the limit of this game modes as beetletoe said. It is also no solution to put enough potions in the lair to beat any dragon number, because that is impossible to balance right.
But I am also not a fan of infinite dragon lairs, but here are some solutions I thought of:
A) Extra areas that take long to play (like a hunt) and provide some potions. One could in principle beat any dragon number and the “goal” of the game is more about not needing this extra areas to progress faster.
B) Different game modes/leaderboards like “least number of steps for killing x dragons”, “highest number of dragons killed with equip x,x,x” (can be, but needs not to be a different game mode, but may just come from statistics and is shown as leaderboards). That way one can also have goals with a 7,7,7 equip.
C) Per some dragon number (50?) there comes one “kingsize dragon” of one below maximum size. And also sets back the number of attacking dragons (e.g. to 30). That means 51 is not 51 normal dragons, but 30 normal dragons and one kingsize dragon. So we “fuse” 21 dragons into one. Next time one reaches 51, the next one comes. They are always together in the farest room of the lair.
Maybe one does not need to kill those kingsize dragons to progress, but gets some progress boost (e.g. jump to the next reds) or leaderboard position and title only when doing so. The reset number should be high, but doable (like currently 50), so that one can in principle progress to infinity fame. The “lower reset number” shouldn’t be too low of course, to not make it boring. This way I came to the numbers 50 and 30.
Absolutely brutal. Screwed on those absurd rolls in the Lair. The de-fanged Elf doesn’t help either. Well for this Dungeoneer there is now only one last shot at the 35 Dragon Campaign. If (in all likelihood) I don’t succeed, then that’s it. Bedtime for bonzo. Delete my account and walk off into the sunset.
That’s it. Close the door turn out the lights. I am DONE. No regrets, no remorse, no fond memories. Delete my account.
Rip. The bugles at dawn will be sounding today.
for the swordsman’s bull rush, could there be a bonus equal to half of shield value rounded down
the huntresse’s flame shot should count as fire for flame-weak enemies (gas spore, slime, ghost)
Flame shots always hitting gas spores and firebugs make sense. Thanks, corgiknight.
2 dragons behind Nudnik in the tournament. Not bad seeing as his dwarf has 10 times my dwarf’s XP!
HEY ESTEEMED GENTLEMEN!!
I am suppose to be hunting Minotaurs! Not Snakes and goblins!
Maroons!!!
Today, the tournament is not listing the remaining dragons during play.
I just defeated 15 dragons in the tournament, but am still listed at 10. Onward to 20. When I finish, I hope it records the status, accurately.
Hello, the game is great. Thinking of going to the advanced version, but here come a suggestions : When we loot a chest and there’s a weapon lower then our. We should get some basic experience from it (Like a % of the weapon exp when we drop the weapon at the lair*) :) thanks!
I think it would be great if flamed arrows from the elf shooting over flame would be able to kill slimes.
I know you need to make money but A.D. is stupid
This character is now retired at fame level 301, only behind the Golden Dragon, currently at 342.
Thank you all for many hours of fun!!
I have suggestion that I believe needs to be Strongly considered. Now that the Human, Dwarf, and Elf are able to rise to 24th Level Each. I think that each one of then Should Receive 1 additional Hit/Health point after say 15th Level. So that the Human and Dwarf would have 4 hit/health points to start with and the Elf would have 3 to start with from 16th to 24 Level.
